A final open house and arts celebration for the planning effort was held on June 7 at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) and was attended by almost 200 people.

The event featured food, music from members of the Lakewood Symphony, an art exhibit highlighting local artists, and a chalk art activity led by RMCAD students and artists. A brief presentation from Lakewood Mayor Bob Murphy, members of the arts district champions group, and Lakewood planning staff was followed by the unveiling of the arts district name - 40 West - by the RMCAD students who developed the name and branding. The 40 West name reflects the rich history of West Colfax Avenue - U.S. Highway 40.
